Guys these are the best pickles, and you can get them at Whole Foods. JUST DON’T GET THE SOUR ONES.

Did you know that Whole Foods sells Candle Cafe frozen meals? They cost about five bucks each, and it’s not bad. I tried the Seitan Piccata in Lemon Caper Sauce, which at Candle 79 is one of the best dishes OF ALL TIME. The frozen meal is, well, what you’d expect - nothing to write home about, but a pretty low-calorie not-terrible vegan option. The seitan was kind of weird, though - I dunno. I don’t think I’d get this one again, but the Tofu Ravioli and Mac n Cheeze both sound pretty decent.

True life: I just ate the entire package of spinach florentine ravioli by my lonesome.
In my defense, my cousin was supposed to each the other half, but her tummy hurt.
And I couldn’t stand it. Those delicious pillows of goodness were so appealing.
Also, roasted asparagus with olive oil.
Yum.
My tummy is smiling.
True life, I’m a chubby vegan.

Just discovered this ravioli and ate it today. So delicious. I’m in heaven.

Snapshots from a Jersey weekend:

  • Picnic brought in from Whole Foods NYC (there’s a spinach-farro salad shaker with fig vinaigrette for me along with salt and vinegar Kettle chips, peaches and cherries)
  • Fresh-picked tomatoes from a friend’s garden
  • Grilled potatoes and peaches

Product Review: So Delicious Dairy Free Greek Style Chocolate “Yogurt”

First of all, I should not be allowed to go grocery shopping by myself. Ever. It’s a disaster. I spent 40$ yesterday at Whole Foods. 40$! On dinosaur kale, conditioner, vegan chocolate chips, leeks, yogurts and…worst of all…12$ on pickles. PICKLES. Damn you, delicious looking self-serve pickle barrels!

And then I bought two bags of Zapp’s Voodoo Chips and Flying Dog In-Heat Wheat (yes, I checked Barnivore and Flying Dog’s beer is vegan) from Gracefully on the LES, and my Whole Foods bag broke.

I’m mess, but I disgress.

So Delicious Greek Yogurt was an interesting departure from their normal yogurts. The greek-style yogurt was far tangier than their regular yogurts and less smooth. It wasn’t bad and I am glad that it has six active & live plant-based cultures as well as 8g of protein and 2g of fiber, as well as grateful the product does not contain soy - I am trying to limit my soy intake. At 140 calories a container with the added fiber / protein, it’s a better choice than regular So Delicious yogurt, but these products are expensive at more than 2$ a pop. On my entry-level budget, I really have to curtail my grocery spending!

It was nice to have the chocolate flavor - felt decadent but not naughty.

I think I’d like to try one of these yogurts with a drizzle of agave, some chia seeds and fruit or chocolate chips. I have two more happily waiting in the fridge so that whenJoelle comes tomorrow for her weekend visit we’ll be able to experiment a bit.

STAY TUNED for a ridiculous amount of restaurant reviews this weekend!
