What I’ve been eating for lunch all week - massaged kale (coconut oil, agave, salt, pepper), corn, teriyaki baked tofu, roasted tomatoes and quinoa. Protein packed delicious vegan food!

Desmond in Albany, NY accommodating my vegan plate with rice, olives, artichoke hearts and roasted tomatoes. The zucchini was inedible and the rice was bland but, good effort [?]

Pasta two ways and two days.

Day 1: with roasted tomatoes, nooch and olive oil.

Day 2: with pan-fried garlic, zucchini, kale and olive oil.

Guys so sometimes I need snacks.

Here are nachos I made on a staying-home-alone-and-watching-Bachelorette Saturday night. A pile of sesame chips, a layer of pepperjack Daiya cheese, a Field Roast Mexican Chipotle sausage, slow-roasted tomatoes and garlic, another layer of chips and another layer of cheese. OMFG SO GOOD. I LOVE SNACKS.

Mama Joy’s

We went to Mama Joy’s in Bushwick Friday night for drinks (6$ for a John Daily), and we loved it so much we went back for brunch on Saturday (and also because Cafe Ghia was mobbed).

I went with the only vegan option - the Barley Salad – locally grown baby carrots, corn, yellow tomatoes and garden dressing, which was delightful, especially the baby carrots. Obsessed. There’s another vegan option for later lunch / dinnertime I’m dying to try - a roasted mushroom dish. The food all has a very home-cooked Southern flair to it, which certainly came across in the meals of my omni dining companions, and I could taste that it had soul.

Mama Joy’s serves 2$ mimosas for Saturday brunch as well, so I’ll be back for those - they aren’t bad at all!

Perhaps most shockingly for Bushwick is that the establishment takes credit cards - so I suggest you go for snacks and delicious drinks!

Mama Joy’s is located at 1084 Flushing Ave at Porter Ave in Bushwick, Brooklyn. You can get there by taking the L train to Morgan or Jefferson - it’s about equidistance.

A salad from lunch last week.

I made the insalata pomodoro by tossing wedge-cut heirloom tomatoes from Grandma’s garden with some basil [also garden fresh of course], olive oil, salt and pepper. I also shredded kale and mixed in crumbled tofu- so so tasty.

What I ate for lunch yesterday: slow roasted tomatoes, fresh cucumbers from grandmas garden and massaged kale. Yum.

slow roasted these tomatoes i picked from my darling grandmother’s garden in upstate NY. best decision ever. two and a half hours at 250 degrees with some fresh basil, olive oil, sea salt and pepper. yum.

I drunkenly made this panzella last night and am quite excited to eat the rest of it when I get home. Radishes, kale, olive bread, and tomatoes. Yum!

Missing Long Island. This is my friend Andrew’s family’s gorgeous garden, and how pleased I was to eat all the fresh veggies. Those cucumbers and tomatoes were so amazing.
