Always have to take pictures of the amazing Vinnie’s Pizzeria in Williamsburg.

Left slice is Mexican-inspired with a black bean base, right side has red onions and BBQ sauce.

Vinnie’s is located at 148 Bedford Ave, L train to Bedford. Eat it.

New World Bistro

Let’s talk about how New World Bistro Bar has an ENTIRE VEGAN MENU.

Let’s talk about how I GOT TO GO EAT WITH MY BEST FRIEND AND RODE OVER IN A BUG MOBILE.

IT WAS AWESOME.

Now, let’s talk about the food.

We started out with a piece of bread, which the server confirmed was vegan. Rather than butter, our server brought olive oil and drizzled it onto our plates. Delicious!

Next was the veggie tapas plate, which was a meal within itself.

  • Moroccan carrot hummus: amazing, amazing
  • Eggplant dip: delightful
  • Tofu feta: a little lemony, but still good - interesting
  • Mushroom ceviche: awful, ask them to take this out, it’s gross (and we LOVE mushrooms)
  • Flat bread: yum
  • Olives: gorgeous

Two things, however: there was way too much food on the plate, and there were raw onions, which didn’t really even have a purpose on the plate.

After a long wait, our other two dishes came out. There was the Toscano flatbread pizza: fig jam, argula and truffle oil and seitan wings with meanhouse sauce.

The flatbread pizza tasted a little burnt, and we couldn’t really taste the truffle oil - I didn’t love it. It would have been better with Daiya, which was an option and I would order it if I got pizza there again.

The seitan wings, however, were fabulous - the meanhouse sauce was OK, but the wings themselves were incredible!

Totally worth a visit if you’re in the Albany area, not terribly expensive either. Yum!

New World Bistro Bar is located at 300 Delaware Avenue in Albany, NY. Go see a movie at the Spectrum after eating a delicious meal!

Stronghearts volume 1: The Pizza Edition

We celebrated vegan pizza day a day early with two amazing pizzas from Stronghearts. Stronghearts is really weird because they only serve pizza on Fridays between 6PM and 2AM, and you have to call way ahead to order (I think we called at like 4PM to get our pizza at 7:45PM), but it’s totally worth it!

Pictured above are our boxes (I got such a kick out of seeing my name on them), a hot chicken wing pizza (hot sauce based pizza with vegan blue cheese and soy chicken strips marinated in hot sauce on top) and TLT pizza (pesto based pizza with onions, tomatoes, sauteed spinach and marinated tofu).

The hot chicken wing pizza was amazingly spicy and we ate half the chicken strips before getting home they were so good, and the TLT’s pesto base was amazing. I did wish the tofu on the TLT was more like tofu ricotta, but I loved all the veggies (and munched all the little pieces of tofu off the pizza anyway)!

These were exceptionally delicious and totally worth the trip to Syracuse if you can get up there. Yum.

Stronghearts is located at 719 E Genesee Street, Syracuse, NY.

Paulie Gee’s is the promised land of pizza.

Seriously.

Here is my advice for dining at Paulie Gee’s:

  • Go at 6PM. It will already be busy but you won’t have to wait for a table.
  • Wash your hands, because the sinks are fun and they have Mrs Meyer’s soap.
  • If you order the salad and you’re vegan, ask for cheese off. It’s rough to pick out.
  • Order a beer, because there’s a great selection on tap.
  • Talk to the cute older man owner, because his face will light up when you detail how glorious his pizza is.
  • Eat a whole pizza to your face, because you deserve it.
  • Tip well, because you’ll be coming again immediately if not sooner.

Mine, pictured above, had homemade vegan sausage (delicious) and homemade cashew cheese (glorious) with arugula and mushrooms. The only don’t is getting extra mushrooms because they literally put four mushrooms on my pizza. It was so amazing though I didn’t even care.

Paulie Gee’s is easily accessible by boat! Take the East River Ferry to India street in Greenpoint. The G is also pretty close but I don’t like the G so I won’t give you directions. Then walk to the Lorimer St L after dining, because you’ll need to walk a little after noshing.

What I had for lunch: Raw pizza w/olives + onions on flax crust w/sun dried tomato sauce +cashew cheese +marinated dark greens salad from the Cinnamon Snail.

Product Review! Amy’s Rice Crust Spinach Pizza (vegan)

At 8.99$, this pizza costs a lot.

When I think about it, though, a slice of vegan pizza usually costs about 4$, so taken in that point of view it’s not too bad.

This pizza didn’t taste bad, sure, but nothing too great. It was also a pain to get the cheese to melt - I had to broil it for a couple of minutes after the initial cooking, when all I wanted to do was dig in (after a terribly long ride home from Queens, I was in desperate need of some great pizza). I also thought it’d have real veggies instead of spinach pasta, so I was disappointed there (misconception on my behalf but, still).

The ingredient list is a bit longer than I’d like, too - see here for full report. However, I do give props to Amy’s Kitchen for even making this product.

End thoughts -  I make pizza way better from scratch but this is a good, easy choice for drunk evenings.

Portabella Pizza

Portabella mushroom rubbed with olive oil + herbs, topped with marinara sauce, vegan spinach artichoke dip and mozzarella Daiya cheese. Put it in the oven for about twenty minutes on 350 and you have a mouthwatering meal.

I had to go up by Grand Central today for work and was thinking about how much I wanted more lunch - I had a small salad with grains and a leftover tomato mint fritter / fava bean dip.

Then I remembered -

TWO BOOTS!

I love their vegan Earth Mother slices that are loaded with fresh vegetables, but the V is for Vegan slice really caught my eye - Daiya cheese, two different types of pesto (roasted red pepper + basil), artichoke hearts - oh my!

So I paid 4.25$

And I ate it

and it was wonderful!

Taking a 7:15PM train out of Penn Station to Albany tonight means Whole Foods for dinner, by the by. Maybe they will have seitan skewers I have daydreamed about…

veganpizzafuckyeah:

This is a huuuuuge 24-cut pizza with Daiya mozz, chick’n, and meatbally things from Little Anthony’s in Albany, NY. The crust is delectable. We really, really love pizza (duh) and this family portrait is hanging on the wall above my desk.
