Vegan Shop-Up!
Sunday was a beautiful day for vegans in NYC, as Pine Box Rock Shop hosted their Valentine’s Day Vegan Shop-Up. I, of course, braved the cold and stomped from my Bushwick home in a maxi skirt and Dr. Martens (?!) (I was going for Earth Mama meets punk…) and got over by about 1:45PM.
It was packed, as you can see from the photo! My heart was warmed, but at the same time it was rough for me to move around!
There was a lot of good food - mostly sweets though, and I had been eating sweets all weekend for my roomate’s birthday - also, honestly, vegan sweets don’t faze me anymore because it’s so easy for me to get them! Very pretty, though. I had also been very interested in Roots in Rust for a terrarium but it was quite expensive, so I think I’d rather opt to purchase one through etsy/make my own.
I got from a cashew chorizo chipotle mac and cheeze Electric Blue Baking Co. for 8$ and damn, it was delicious! I found one of the last spots at the bar and browsed Veg News while devouring. Really hit the spot, and a joy to look around at all the other happy vegans.
I also picked up two croissants from Champs Bakery and oh my goodness, though I wanted to save the brocoli/cheeze one to heat and eat once I got home, I ended up eating the whole thing on the street because it was SO GOOD! I think vegan croissants are a really undeserved market. I LOVE CROISSANTS SO MUCH.
Can’t wait for next time, and I’m totally going to go to Champs stat for more croissants.
ALSO tonight I am going to Chef’s Table: Vegan Dinner by chef Terry Hope Romero at the Brooklyn Kitchen! We’ll be making fine herb cultured cashew cheese on crostini, chickpea crepes filled with red wine braised leeks and mushrooms, and french caramelized apple tart tatin with olive oil shortbread for dessert. Class includes a wine pairing by Vine Wine! I’m so excited to go and share my experience with all y’all.
