NYC Vegan

I'm a Bushwick-based vegan navigating NYC eateries and grocery shops. I cook too.

Hi there.

WHO AM I?

My name is Christina Lynn Agatha. I’m twenty-three years old, I live in Bushwick, and by day I work as an account coordinator at a small marketing communications agency.

On the weekends and after 8PM, I’m an amateur vegan chef who makes her omnivore friends drool with epic creations. I’m a struggling yogini and a kale fanatic. I blog about my own cooking creations, vegan events / eateries in NYC, review vegan products, reblog environmental / food stuff I think is interesting, and share tales of NYC grocery stores. Basically, I eat a lot, and it’s all pretty tasty stuff.

WHY AM I VEGAN?

I’ve been vegan since mid-October 2010. The short answer is that this came about as a result of reading Alicia Silverstone’s “The Kind Diet.”

Silverstone’s arguments in favor of a plant-based diet are so compelling, between the health benefits of veganism and the terrors of the industry in bringing fish, milk and cheese to the table. I was a pescetarian for maybe two years, and Silverstone made me feel bad about munching my fishy friends. And though I used to be all about cheese, the inhumane treatment of cows to bring the cheese into being shocked me and rocked me into a better way of thinking.

The long answer is that a lot of really awful things happened in my personal life at the same time, and I, as a micro-managing freak, needed a project to guide me through a difficult time. Rather than turning to destructive routes, I chose to renew my commitment to the environment and my health. The change stuck (with a few slip-ups along the way - I’m only human), and over a year later, I am healthier, happier and improving every day.
